The Communications and Engagement Manager is responsible for communications and fostering engagement throughout the organization and the community.
This full-time, non-exempt position involves creating and distributing communications, including marketing materials, and supporting engagement and relationships for all United Way of Tompkins County activities. Engagement activities, outside of communications and marketing, include supporting both Resource Development & Community Impact. Responsibilities include donor cultivation and retention materials and activities, campaign and community impact volunteer support, newsletters to our distribution list, website maintenance, news stories, social media management, event planning and management, grant-writing assistance, and other forms of written, visual and verbal communication. This position is the primary support person for the Marketing & Communications Committee, and provides secondary support to the Campaign Committee, Special Events sub-committee, and the Board of Directors. The position is also the primary point of contact for community member questions at large, including inquiries about volunteer opportunities. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be people-focused within operational systems, demonstrate the ability to be engaging and professional with a variety of audiences, have the ability to work independently while also being part of a team, be a self-starter and highly motivated professional who has a deep sense of integrity and commitment to creating a stronger community within the United Way of Tompkins County and Tompkins County cultures. The position is responsible for graphic design, social media and other marketing campaigns for the organization and requires proficiency in customer relationship management, website, communications, and database platforms.

This role requires the ability to work in a fast paced environment and respond proactively to changing priorities and meet multiple deadlines. The right individual must be collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented.
Familiarity with general office equipment,
Proficient in the latest Microsoft Office Environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams),
Expertise with graphic design, website, social media platforms, Constant Contact, CRM, and database platforms.
Strong technical skills including adoption of technology innovations and applications,
Strong organizational, interpersonal, listening, and critical thinking skills,
Demonstrated reliability, positive work habits, ability to work independently, collaboratively, and with cross-functional teams.
Discretion to manage sensitive and confidential information a must,
Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments in a transparent, respectful manner,
Experience engaging and working with volunteers,
Appreciation of and willingness to work with and advocate for people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds,
Occasional use of personal vehicle, with reimbursement for mileage requiring access to and the ability to drive a reliable motor vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance
Available to work in office during weekdays and typical business hours (40 hours per week)
Available to work some evenings and weekends
Ability to lift and carry materials up to 30 pounds
Education & Experience Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
Additionally, one to three (1-3) years of relevant experience in a related field
Non-profit, government, foundation, board, volunteer management, and/or United Way experience preferred.
