Church Treasurer

Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia

The Treasurer will maintain the Church’s bank accounts, Pay all invoices that come in, create and present monthly financial reports for Finance and Church Council.  Report payroll information to payroll company and distribute paycheck stubs to employees.

Specific Responsibilities:

1.            Oversee the operating budget of the church.

Account for all expenses. Report on any spending that is unusual or beyond projections.
Maintain all bank accounts (Operating, Outreach, VIM & Reserve) relating to the operating budget of the church.
Reconcile each account with bank statements, monthly.
Work closely with Financial Secretary.  Reconcile bank deposits with Financial Secretary’s reports, monthly.
Provide monthly report of income and expenses.
2.            Establish standards for submitting receipts and authorizing expenditures.

The person purchasing on behalf of the church should provide a receipt.
Reconcile monthly credit card statements with receipts from card holders.
Purchases outside of the budget must be authorized in advance.
3.            Remit all operating expenses in a timely manner.

Operating expenses that must be paid in a timely manner include payroll, pension and apportionment (shared ministry) obligations.
Email Payroll Company with hourly paid employee time.
Distribute payroll stubs from Payroll report sent by Premier Payroll.  Keep on file all pertinent payroll reports.
Apportionment payments (Automatically debited from our Operating Account), health insurance, and special offerings for conference programs should be remitted on conference remittance forms.  Remit directly to the organization any other non-conference offerings.
4.            Complete annual statistical reports (with pastor), and submit to conference.  Submit records to Auditor, for annual audit.

5.            Maintain appropriate records.

File receipts in a manner easily accessible to others. Maintain records for 7 years.
Maintain records of all tax information.
Converse with conference or other government entity as necessary when there are questions regarding taxes or forms to file.
6.            Develop a projected operating budget for the next year, based on experience from the current year.

7.            Attend meetings of church council, finance committee, and staff.

 

Qualifications:

Must have a working knowledge of Quickbooks Pro and have experience in the accounting field.

 

Salary and Terms of Employment:

$15.00 per hour; 52  weeks; average three (3) hours per week and not to exceed five (5) hours per week.
